Assessment Process & Timeline
Our autism assessment is designed to meet both diagnostic and funding requirements. Each session is essential for providing a thorough and conclusive autism spectrum disorder diagnosis.
Session 1: Autism Diagnostic Interview–Revised (ADI-R)
A structured interview with parents/caregivers conducted via phone or video call to gather detailed information about your child’s family history, developmental milestones, and current concerns.
This session is estimated to take 2 hours to complete.
Session 2: Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd Edition (ADOS-2)
A direct, in-person assessment with your child that evaluates social communication, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviours. The ADOS-2 is widely recognised as the gold standard in autism diagnosis.
This session is estimated to take 1 hour to complete.
Session 3: Cognitive Assessment (WPPSI-IV or WISC-V)
A cognitive assessment is important when assessing for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children because it provides insight into their intellectual abilities, learning profile, and problem-solving skills. This helps differentiate ASD from other developmental conditions and informs appropriate support and intervention strategies.
The assessment administered will depend on your child’s age:
- Ages 2–5:Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI-IV)
Engaging, play-based activities assess early reasoning, language, memory, and processing speed, providing insight into your child’s developmental strengths and needs.
- Ages 6–16: Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V)
Evaluates cognitive abilities, language, academic skills, and executive functioning to inform diagnosis and support planning.
This session is estimated to take up to 2 hours to complete.
Session 4: Feedback Session
Scheduled up to 4 weeks after the final assessment. The assessing psychologist will review the assessment findings and recommendations with parents or caregivers, who will be provided a comprehensive assessment report upon conclusion.
